79th Annual Flight of Lasers

On July 20th, 2014 the 79th Annual Flight of the Lasers will take place.  The starting point for the Flight of the Lasers is the Newport Harbor Yacht Club. The Commodore’s Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event, which is open to sailors of all ages.  This is a timed event and boats will judged accordingly. The event begins at 1pm. After the event there will refreshments and an awards ceremony. The awards ceremony will be held at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.  All competitors will receive a commemorative t-shirt.  Trophies will be given for the first ten finishers, first girl, first married couple, youngest boy, youngest girl, best costume, first parent child team, best decorated boat, oldest skipper and bravery in the face of danger.  For more information about this event see their website at: http://www.flightofthelasers.org/.

Old Glory Boat Parade

On Fourth of July, come to Newport Harbor to get a front row seat to the Old Glory Boat Parade.  The Old Glory Boat Parade is one of the nation’s oldest and largest Patriotic boat parades. The boat parade has over 100 vessels, decorated in red, white and blue.  This year’s theme is “Freedom Calling.” The boats cruise through Newport Harbor. The Harbor Patrol Fire Boat, followed by the VIP Boat will lead this year’s parade.  The Parade kicks off at 1 pm and goes to 5 pm. McFadden’s Wharf Open Air Market takes place the 4th Thursday of the month, from May through September.  From 4pm to 8pm, Balboa Peninsula is home to this fun and fresh market. Newport Beach Open Air Markets promote small business and the entrepreneurial spirit.  Each open market features art, new and vintage finds. 21st Annual Balboa Island Parade

The exciting and fun Balboa Island Parade will kick-off at 11am on Sunday, June 1st.  The parade is celebrating its 21st year of Celebrate Balboa Island Day.  The theme of this year’s parade is Star Spangled Islands: Balboa, Little and Collins. The parade marches down Marine Ave toward the fire station. After the parade, the party will continue with live entertainment from “Big Wednesday” Surf Band and “The Tricia Freeman Band.”  The bands will be performing right in front of the fire station.  The bridge closes at 10:30am, so plan accordingly.  The parade and party are sponsored by the Balboa Island Improvement Association. Aloha Paddle for Water 2014

The Aloha Paddle for Water 2014 will take place on May 24th, 2014, from 12PM to 4PM.  Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina will host the event at Pirate Coast Beach. This is the 3rd Annual installment of this event which raises money to provide clean and safe drinking water for developing nations through the Charity Water organization.  The Pirate Coast Paddle Company will lead this paddling adventure and are passionate about using their small business to change the world by brining clean water to people living without it. After the paddle enjoy the fun filled beach party with good food, beer, food truck, bounce house, silent auction and raffle.  This event is family friendly. Crystal Cove Art Workshop

The Crystal Cove Alliance and the Crystal Cove Alliance Art Council is offering a very special artist’s workshop led by the highly acclaimed artist John Burton. The workshop titled A Testimony of Beauty, will give students to opportunity to capture the diversity of Crystal Cove State Park in paint. This three day long workshop will work with paint every day in the plein air style.  Participants will learn to express their own artistic voice, while learning to assess their work both objectively and subjectively.  The art workshop will take place April 30th through May 2nd, 2014 from 9:30am to 4pm, each day.  The workshop will take place at the Crystal Cove State Park, a true gem in Southern California.  All levels from novice to expert will enjoy this workshop. This workshop costs $450, for the entire three days.
